AI Mediation, Human Responsibility, and the Limits of Digital Dialogue
 |
Artificial amplification becomes responsible inquiry only when formulation returns to a living center of discernment and answerability. |
1. A New Interlocutor, an Old Temptation
Artificial intelligence has entered philosophical practice
not only as an instrument of retrieval or composition, but as a new kind of
interlocutory medium. It can reformulate a question, expose an inconsistency,
propose an unexpected distinction, and return an unfinished intuition in a form
its author had not yet been able to articulate. Used with discipline, it may
enlarge the field within which thought becomes audible to itself.
This possibility should neither be dismissed nor
romanticized. The fact that an artificial system does not possess a human
interior life does not make its contribution unreal. A map does not walk, yet
it may change the course of a journey. A musical instrument does not hear, yet
it may allow something previously silent to enter the world. In a different and
more complex way, AI mediation can participate in the genesis of thought
without becoming the responsible subject of that thought.
